Attention: All events are 100% juried. All artists in the North Beaches Art Walk that have not been juried prior must have their art submitted for jurying before participating again. Artists (not yet juried) should submit their items for review by the end of a month to be juried in time to qualify for the following month. It would be wise to not wait to the end of the month, because there is very little time after the jurying process to secure a display location (since the spots tend to disappear very fast). Ideally, you would want to be juried by the day of Art Walk so that you can start checking with venues the day after Art Walk. There is no guarantee that you will be able to participate in the next event at all; it depends on availability.

In order that the North Beaches Art Walk Association, Inc. can have the monthly Art Walk event, the cities of Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach require us to register all participants. You must register at the North Beaches Art Walk headquarters inside Archway Gallery & Framing (363 Atlantic Blvd, Atlantic Beach). Each month that you participate, you must sign a release form and pay $10 for a badge that you must wear during the event. Please read and understand the rules and guidelines.

The North Beaches Art Walk is for artists and their artwork. The most important part of the name North Beaches Art Walk is the word "Art." The main idea is that the artwork must be art. We do not not accept crafts or manufactured items (products) as artwork. We want artists, not retailers, distributors, re-sellers, or assemblers of manufactured items to create products. The artwork must be created by the participant (artist). If the artwork consists of other materials, the artist must be able to demonstrate that they create 80% of the item themselves, and must not be craft oriented. If the submission is rejected, new/different types of items can be submitted after six months.

All artists must have their artwork juried before becoming a participant. After approval, the artist may solicit a participating venue to be an artist at their venue on the day of the Art Walk event.

There is a $20 non-refundable fee for the jurying process. You will need to leave several examples of your art for review (at least four of each item you wish to display), which takes 7-10 business days. Bring the actual items (not photos of the items) in a suitable enclosing container, such as a zip-lock bag, or other suitable container, to Archway Gallery and Framing at 363 Atlantic Boulevard, Suite 2, Atlantic Beach, FL, between noon and 5 P.M., Monday through Friday (except on the day of the Art Walk event; too busy). There is no guarantee that you will be accepted. Visual Art oriented items is the goal.

If you produce different types of artwork, you need to bring at least four examples of each type you plan to sell. The artwork itself must be the main reason for the item. For example, your artwork on art cards would be accepted but your art used to illustrate a book would not be considered as artwork.

To ensure a well rounded variety of art types, we have a limited number of positions for each type of artwork in our event. Due to some artists not participating every month, we occasionally have more artists in a group than our cap limits allow for a single event. That is not a problem unless too many want to participate in the same month. In those instances, after we reach our cutoff number, the remainder will have to wait for a future month. In actually, it rarely happens for most art types but does much more often for jewelry artists.

We understand that artist schedules change, they move away, or they have other priorities that affect their ability to participate in the North Beaches Art Walk event. If an artist does not participate for quite a while, they are automatically removed from our list of participants with the presumption that they are no longer going to participate.

All participating artists are responsible for coordinating directly with participating venues in order to secure a spot. It is a good idea to show the venue the artwork you sell. The venue does not jury/approve/disapprove your artwork, but it can be helpful for them to see your artwork if they are considering multiple artists. The venue is responsible for submitting the artist information to the North Beaches Art Walk Association. When the information is processed, the artist name will be added to the Participant page on our website. The information is also added to the Map Card. if received in time. The information from the venue must be received by the first Thursday in order to get on the Map Card.

Badges can be picked up at Archway Gallery & Framing after we have processed the information from the venue, as viewed on the Participant page of the website. You must stop by our headquarters to sign the release and pay for your badge in person (no representative). No badges are issued before the first of the month of the Art Walk. Each month you participate, you must acquire a new badge. You become a participant for that month when a venue sends your name in. If you pick up your badge before the event, the price is $10; on the day of the event or after, you must pay $20.

You pay for being advertised as being a participant of the Art Walk event, therefore if you are listed as a participant, you are expected to pay for the badge. Think of it this way, if you are reserving a spot but you do not show up, you are preventing another artist from having that spot. Therefore, you are expected to pay for reserving the location.

The badge is a requirement set by the cities of Neptune Beach and Atlantic Beach to allow us to have the Art Walk event. Therefore, we track badges issued by collecting the fee and having the artist sign a release. The badge must be worn during the event by the artist. During the event, we have "badge police" checking to ensure artists have their badge on during the event. The checking is sometimes very thorough and sometimes random. The checking process may be by a city official, or a designated member of the North Beaches Art Walk Association, Inc. It is important to wear the badge so that the "badge police" can easily identify who the artist is. If an artist is caught not having their badge, the badge police will ask them to pay right them or pack up and leave. Expelled artists will not be able to participate in the Art Walk event again.

If we advertise the artists and where they are participating, we want them to be there, from the start to the finish and be identifiable by wearing their badge during that time. Visitors depend on being able to locate an artist at the location we are advertising. The artist should wear their Art Walk badge during the event in order to designate to the visitors who the artist is. This can be especially important if there are several people crowded around the artist. The badge helps identify to whom they can ask questions.

Once the location of an artist has been submitted to the North Beaches Art Walk Association staff, you cannot change to a different location. Artists need to be where they are advertised to be. Venues cannot accept an artist that is advertised to be at a different location.

Artists provide their own table and chairs during the Art Walk. Tables should be draped with a pleasing cover. Artists need to arrange for any lighting needed in darker months.

If you set up on the sidewalk in front of a business, you need to make sure you do not block sidewalk traffic or handicap access. The amount of space needed varies with the location. The cities of Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach have different rules. Make sure you allow plenty of room for foot traffic so they are happy (a few complaints to the city can adversely affect the success of Art Walk).

It is up to the artist to secure a display location by making contact with the venues, however, we want to also ensure Art Walk works. If you are having trouble finding a spot/venue you can contact an NBAW representative at 904.249.2222, and they will assist you.

Already an Art Walk Artist?

For the web, please read the following:

To be included in the Artists section, you need to be a registered participant, and have participated in the North Beaches Art Walk event for two consecutive months in a row. If you do not continue to participate in the Art Walk event, the bio page we created for you will be removed.

We need you to provide us with the following information:

Name

Business Title or Sub-Title or By-line you use (check examples online to get a good representation of this)

Contact Information that you want to provide to the public (for the website):

Phone (use dashes to separate area code and prefix, e.g., 904-249-2222)

e-mail

Web site - We can link to your website, meaning a website hosted that you have registered the domain name. If you do not maintian (renew) your domain name, you must let us know immediately; otherwise, our website will be linked to the next website to use the same domain name, which could be anything. We do not link to other websites that you may be associated with, be part of, or have a page or section on the website, such as the many social websites.

Contact Information you want to provide to North Beaches Art Walk only (not for web)

Bio about yourself.

Please ensure the spelling is correct, or ensure that we know it needs editing. Our interest is to make you look good, and we are willing to help out. Common punctuation errors, and typos might be missed, but if noticed, they will be corrected; just don't count on it to happen automatically. All you have to do is ask for some review.

For your bio, make sure that the text will read as accurate a year from now as it does today. Avoid dated oriented items such as "currently artist of the month at AAAA Gallery" or "since moving here a year ago" or "our children graduating this spring." We do not want the website text to be incorrect a month from now or even a year from now if possible; you get the idea.

Suitable Image for the web:

Type: Basically, an example image or two showing your artwork. Art examples have to be artistic, and easily to understand what type of art you create. Graphic art examples are not accepted (advertisements, etc.).

Attachment: Send the actual image(s) as an e-mail attachment (do not send a reference URL to an image).

Naming: All received images end up in a common image directory, and without a good descriptive file name, they are hard to find later when doing the web editing. Please start the name of the file with your last name followed by your first name, followed by an underscore. Do not use the space character in the file name (continuous characters). Use uppercase for the first letter of a word, such as your name, and the description words. An example: DaVinciLeonardo_MonaLisaPaintedWithASlightSmile.png (not Da Vinci Leonardo _ Mona Lisa painted with a slight smile.png)

Size: You can provide as large of an image as you have available; we will take care of reducing for the web as necessary. A larger image will also allow us to have it available for other purposes if we need it (such as advertising print).

Image Update: If you are already listed on the nbaw.org website and the image is rather small, we would like to have an updated image available. As computer display resolutions increase, the images we used a few years ago appear much smaller on these larger resolution screens (% of real estate). We would like to have your image be large enough to show off your talents much better on the larger resolution displays.

Description: We also need a short text description of the art image that would describe it to someone that was not looking at the image. The description is included in the website code so that blind users will know what the image is about (read aloud by the browser). Do not send an image without the description.

Finally, we need to know which category to put your bio and art into. In many cases, that may seem obvious, but in some cases, the art starts to blend into other categories. For example, some photography looks like painting, or vice-versa. Please let us know which of the following categories to place your information into:

Painting

Mixed Media

Photography

Jewelry & Accessories

Pottery & Sculpture

3-D Art (very inclusive; if it doesn't fit in the others, this is it)

If you have already participated in the North Beaches Art Walk event, you can send your bio and information in an e-mail to the Art Walk coordinator at info@nbaw.org in order to be posted on the Art Walk website. Do not send the information in an attachment; send it as plain text in the e-mail.

After the page is published, only the Art Walk coordinator can edit the website content. If the published text needs changes, you must send the changes to the Art Walk coordinator (info@nbaw.org).
