Sharon Westbrook is a professional artist, born and raised in Aiken, South Carolina. She began her studies of art at the University of South Caroline; but, later, moved to Jacksonville Beach, Florida, where she obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of North Florida. She has resided in Jacksonville Beach, Florida for over 30 years, and works there independently in her studio.
Sharon has been recognized as one of the top oil painters in America; and, will be published in Best of American Artists Oil Painters, Volume III, (2010), Kennedy Publishing. Recently, she was invited by the Deputy Mayor of the French Riviera (Villefranche) to participate in their Multi-Cultural Art Exposition in France. Her art has been purchased by private collectors, whose collections include original works by 'Picasso', 'Chagall', 'Motherwell' and "Andy Warhol". She has been represented by prestigious galleries in Miami, Atlanta, Ft. Lauderdale, Charleston and Jacksonville - including Fay Gold Gallery, recognized as one of the top ten galleries in the U.S. at the time. She has won numerous awards in juried shows; and, has exhibited her art in a national show in New York, as well as an international show in Florida.
One of her designs was chosen by PBS television for a "national" awareness campaign. Another piece of her art was selected for a bronze 'bas relief' sculpture, publicly displayed in Jacksonville, Florida. Many homes/buildings designed by acclaimed architects throughout the U.S., now display her artwork. Florida Architecture magazine features a house in Ft. Lauderdale, which showcases her art in the main living area. Also, her work is displayed in the offices of prominent attorneys, physicians and architects in many major cities.
Sharon is a contemporary abstract and figurative artist. Her current, and ever-evolving, abstract style is non-representational, or non-objective, which means there are no objects represented. Passion, energy, and emotion are conveyed purely through the use of form and color. Her art reflects her feelings and responses; however, she enjoys the viewer finding their personal interpretation of her art.
